How do you grow long hair?

Many dream of a long, flowing hair. But not everyone succeeds in achieving that long hair. Perhaps your hair becomes damaged before it has a chance to grow long and therefore needs to be cut again, or maybe you haven’t had the patience. In this post, we hope to provide you with useful tips and advice on how to care for your hair so that it can grow long while remaining healthy and vibrant.

Why doesn’t my hair grow long?

Many experience that their hair doesn’t grow, or that it stops growing at a certain length. Not everyone can achieve long hair genetically, but the most common reason for experiencing hair not getting longer is split ends. If you don’t take good care of your hair and regularly trim the ends, they become split. Split ends that aren’t trimmed can then start splitting further up the hair strands, causing the strands to break off. Which in other words, could be the reason why it feels like the hair isn’t getting longer.

Growing out long hair requires some effort, where one should focus a lot on using high-quality products and caring for the hair gently to maintain its quality. That way, you can succeed in growing out your hair while keeping it looking nice and healthy.

Can one make their hair grow faster, one might wonder? The simple answer to this is no, but if, for example, you have hair that grows slowly, or not at all, due to factors such as nutritional deficiencies or similar, you can make your hair grow faster by providing the body with the nutrients or substances it lacks.

Here’s how you go about growing out your hair

The most important point to consider in order for your hair to grow out and become long, without getting damaged and needing to be cut along the way, is to take care of your hair and avoid things that can cause damage. You want to take care of your hair and go the extra mile to prevent damage. Even if your hair might be freshly cut or healthy and vibrant right now, it’s worth remembering that you need to continue taking care of it to keep it looking nice. There’s a lot you can do yourself to prevent damage and grow out your hair!

One simple routine to start implementing right now is to use a hair mask once a week (or every third wash, for example). A nourishing hair mask will provide deep care and nourishment to your hair, thus contributing to maintaining the quality of your hair.

Always blow dry your hair. This may sound counterproductive, as heat is often said to be damaging to the hair and should be avoided. Which is also true! But there are times when a hairdryer is preferred over letting your hair air dry. Why is that? Well, because the hair is most fragile when it’s wet, and if you walk around with wet/damp hair for several hours and let it air dry, the hair is very susceptible to damage. Additionally, it’s not good for the hair strands to be wet for too long, as it causes the strands to swell and get damaged inside the cortex. So it can actually be beneficial to blow dry your hair, but don’t forget the heat protectant, and try to use the hairdryer on a low temperature.

Get the right nutrition. Diet is crucial when it comes to good and healthy hair growth. The quality of your hair depends to a very large extent on how you take care of it from within, so nutrition is crucial for your hair to grow normally and grow out strong and healthy. Nutritional deficiencies are a very common cause of hair loss and slow hair growth. So make sure to eat a varied diet, and consider a hair supplement as a good addition.

Don’t cut your hair too often. Despite the importance of regularly trimming the ends, as mentioned above, you need to consider not cutting your hair TOO often. Keep in mind that hair grows on average 1 cm per month. If you were to trim the ends, for example, every month – well, then you’re cutting off the hair at the same rate it grows, which makes it appear as if the hair isn’t growing. So a tip is to take care of your hair and protect it from damage to avoid split ends, and make sure to trim the ends every third to fourth month.

However, if your hair is very damaged, trimming the ends as often as every other month may be beneficial. That way, the hair has time to grow while you continuously trim away the damaged parts.

Scalp! Don’t forget about your scalp. We’ve talked about this many times. A healthy and balanced scalp is essential for your hair to grow normally. Use gentle and nourishing hair care products that don’t irritate or dry out your scalp.

Don’t dye or bleach. To prevent damage, it can be a good idea to avoid coloring and bleaching your hair. Especially during the period when you’re letting your hair grow out. Coloring and bleaching can cause a lot of damage to the hair, so you have a lot to gain by avoiding them.
