TANGLED HAIR AFTER THE SHOWER?

Many people find that their hair feels and looks tangled after washing. Maybe you feel like your hair is a tangled rat’s nest, impossible to detangle when wet? Here are some tips and tricks to prevent this!

This is a fairly common problem for many, where their hair gets tangled – especially after washing and when their hair is still wet. As a hairdresser, Bobby has some useful tips to prevent this.

Don’t ruin your hair while it’s wet

It all starts in the shower. You can start to fight tangled, matted hair when shampooing – all with how you choose to apply your shampoo! What many people do is simply take a generous dollop of shampoo and then rub it all over their hair. They may rub quite hard to really get the shampoo all through their hair. This is the first thing to keep in mind: the more you rub wet hair, the more tangled (and more damaged) it gets.

Hair is much more sensitive when wet than when dry, so wet hair is more likely to break or become damaged more quickly. So be careful with your hair when it’s wet.

Be careful when brushing wet hair

It can be tempting to grab the nearest hairbrush and run it through your hair to sort out the tangles – but don’t fall for this! As we mentioned, hair is much more fragile and prone to breakage when it’s wet. What you can do is gently try to detangle your hair with a wide-toothed comb or a brush specifically made to work with wet hair. Like our Detangling Brush.

You can also try detangling your hair in the shower with your fingers while using conditioner; this is an even gentler way to detangle wet hair.

Don’t rub it with a towel!’

Something to keep in mind if you want to avoid tangled, frizzy, damaged hair is not to rub your wet hair with the towel. Terrycloth towels are hard on your hair. Trying to rub your hair dry with a towel can lead to even worse tangles – not to mention frizz! Instead, gently squeeze the water out of your hair with your hands.

Leave-in products that protect and nourish

Another hot tip is to apply a leave-in product to your damp hair. For example, a conditioner spray. This has a detangling effect on the hair, and it can provide protection and care for the hair. Protecting your hair from too much wear and tear is a great way to prevent it from becoming tangled and matted!

Time to cut your hair?

Has it been a while since you cut your ends? Cutting your hair can also be a way to eliminate tangles. Worn and split ends often get caught in each other and tangle more easily. A haircut, even if only on the ends, can help fight tangles – both wet and dry! ????
