Tips for caring for curly hair!

Want to wear your curls a little more often and skip the straightener, but don’t know where to start, how to do to make your curls feel good and show their best self? Here are some useful tips, as well as useful information just about curly hair!

Curly hair is generally drier and brittler. Curly hair therefore has a tendency to become extra dry and frizzy. Hence, curly hair is a hair type that often needs extra care and good products. More protein and moisture!

With straight hair, for example, the natural oil, sebum from the scalp, tends to spread through hair. But with curly hair, the oil stays on the scalp. This, among other reasons, is why curly hair, as a rule, is drier than straight hair.

Sulphate-free and silicone-free

In order not to dry out already brittle and dry curls, it is recommended to use sulphate-free shampoo. Sulphate-free shampoo is good for anyone who wants to avoid drying out their hair and scalp, but this is all the more important for curly hair, which is in even greater need of just moisture. By using sulphate-free shampoo, you can wash your hair without risking drying it out and creating unnecessary frizz.

Conditioner is also incredibly important — for all hair, but especially curly hair that is in even greater need of the moisture, care, and protection that a good conditioner offers. One tip is to use a conditioner without silicones, as silicones tend to weigh down hair. Silicones can cosmetically provide a glossy, soft hair, but they really do nothing more for hair than coat the hair and prevent moisture and other nutrition from getting through — which can then dry out the hair.

Moisture, moisture, and more moisture!

As we mentioned earlier, curly hair is drier than straight hair. That’s why lots of moisture is important! In addition to using good shampoos and conditioners that provide lots of care and moisture, it is also good to use different products after washing. These include conditioner spray/leave-in product, serum, oil etc. This is to give the hair as much moisture as possible.

In addition, use a deep-nourishing and moisturising hair mask once a week, and your hair will love you! Here, we want to tip about our hair mask, the Multi Repair Hair Mask. A thick, creamy wrap with both protein and moisture to nourish and moisturise even the driest hair.

Protein!

Protein is also important for curly hair. For all hair, of course — but as mentioned above, curly hair needs more moisture and protein. Hair is partly made up of protein, and curly hairs that are both brittle and drier than straight hair often need even more protein to strengthen and protect hair.

Do not brush curly hair

Sounds strange…? To avoid frizzy and unmanageable curls, one hot tip is not to brush curly hair when dry! Many with curly hair swear that brushing curly hair when dry rarely looks good. Instead, you can comb/untangle curly hair while it’s still wet/damp (with caution, since hair is brittler when wet). Many people with curly hair find that it works well to comb and untangle hair with their fingers in the shower while the conditioner is in the hair. Then, the hair will be easier to untangle.

Sleep with your hair in an up-do

One tip is to sleep with your hair in a loose knot, for example, or use a satin pillowcase. This kind of pillowcase counteracts the friction that otherwise comes between the hair and pillowcase.

Air-dry your hair or dry it with a diffuser

Curly hair feels best when air-dried or gently dried with the help of a low-temperature diffuser.
Squeeze any product in your hair (for example, a hair mousse) and squeeze the curls with the help of the product. Then, let the hair air-dry, or use a diffuser to speed up the drying time.
This will help you get beautiful, defined, vibrant curls!
