Now that winter is approaching and summer is over, it’s common to experience an itchy scalp. The problem isn’t always related to dandruff, and there are some tricks to help prevent it.

Moisture, cold weather, and using the wrong products can all affect the health of your scalp. For hair to be healthy, it’s important to take care of your scalp as well. Water can dry out the scalp and cause itching, but the air around us also plays a role. In winter, the air is drier, and our bodies react to this. You might recognize this from needing to apply hand cream more often or noticing that the delicate skin on your face feels drier.
How to Get Rid of Itchy Scalp and Dry Skin
Applying moisturizer more often is an easy solution, especially if the lotion is nourishing and contains ingredients like sunflower oil, as our body lotion does.
But taking care of your scalp can be trickier—unless you know these tips:
Blow-dry your hair after showering
Blow-drying your hair after a shower isn’t harmful as long as you use a good heat protectant. Letting your hair air-dry keeps water in the scalp for longer, which can slowly dry it out and cause itching. Dry your scalp completely with a hairdryer, but if you prefer, you can leave the lengths slightly damp since they don’t dry out in the same way as the roots.
Use a nourishing shampoo
The shampoo you choose can make a big difference in preventing unnecessary irritation. Did you know that everyone has a certain type of yeast fungus on their scalp? Some hair products can increase its production, leading to itchiness. Look for a shampoo that contains Piroctone Olamine, an ingredient with antifungal properties that helps reduce yeast production. Our Multi Repair series includes this ingredient while also nourishing and repairing both the scalp and hair.
Detox your hair from product buildup
Using styling products is a great way to keep your hair looking good, but without the right shampoo, residue can build up, clogging both the scalp and hair. This can prevent your hair from absorbing the nourishing ingredients in your hair care products. Using a detox shampoo and conditioner once or twice a week will deeply cleanse your scalp and hair, minimizing the risk of an itchy scalp.
Hydrate your hair
Using moisturizing products in your hair works just like applying lotion to dry skin. Choose products that provide deep hydration. Our Hydrate & Moisture series contains argan oil and jojoba oil, both known for their hydrating properties, leaving your hair silky smooth.
Lock in the moisture you’ve added
One common mistake after moisturizing hair is forgetting to seal in the hydration. Finishing your routine with a hair oil is a great way to nourish the hair while locking in moisture.
Our Beauty Oil not only does this but also strengthens and repairs your hair.
Other factors, such as stress, dandruff, eczema, or allergies, can also irritate your scalp. If stress is the cause, we recommend taking some extra time for self-care—why not enjoy a relaxing spa day at home with our beautifully scented products?
